Ojanae Thompson was tragically murdered in the summer of 2021 in Philadelphia by the hands of gun violence. At the time of her death, she was in her 1st year Nursing Program at the Community College of Philadelphia. Her family was happy that they would be able to put her through college, but sadly this will never occur and so we are starting this fund in her honor.
Through this fund, our goal is to remove the barriers for a student wishing to achieve academic excellence through school. So many of our black and brown children eliminate themselves before they even apply because they just can’t afford many of the items, which they will need to assist them through school.
In reading articles and listening to programs across America, this is a major issue for students from elementary through graduate school. An item we see as small is major to a potential lawyer or doctor simply because they can’t afford a medical school application, college application fees, or no money for transportation to get to school.
We will begin to raise funds through an Annual 1.9mile Family Fun Walk/Run.
Our inaugural event is due to take place on Saturday, 13th August 2022 at Navy Yard, League Island Park, 1101 Kitty Hawk Ave Philadelphia, PA 19112.

Our inaugural event will be the establishment of the Ojanae Thompson Memorial Scholarship Fund. We will begin to raise funds through this inaugural 1.9mile family fun walk/run.
